The state long service leave calculator does not apply to this scheme. If you are covered, your leave is worked out and paid by NT Build under its own rules. Check your service record with the scheme.

Who is covered

  • Private-sector workers employed to physically carry out construction work in the NT, on site and on the tools more than 50% of the time.
  • Full-time, part-time, casual and labour-only contractors.
  • Eligible supervisors and working directors.
  • Not covered: administration, clerical, managerial and professional roles, and transport-only roles.

When you qualify

You need 2,200 service days (10 years). You can earn at most 220 days per financial year.

What you get

You get 13 weeks (65 days) after 10 years, earned at 6.5 days of credit per 220 days. You then get a further 32.5 days after each additional 1,100 days. The NT portion is paid at the Board's weekly benefit rate, which is $1,664.00 gross per week from 1 July 2026. Each leave period must be at least 5 days.

Leaving early, illness, retirement and death

  • Ceasing claim with 7 years (1,540 days) when you no longer do construction work.
  • Deregistration claim with 5 years (1,100 days).
  • Deceased claim with at least 34 service days.
  • You must claim within 4 years of deregistration.

How it is paid

NT Build pays a lump sum into your nominated bank account. Leave is taxed using the ATO weekly tax table. Leaving-the-industry claims are taxed under ATO Schedule 7.

How to claim

Claim through the NT Build client portal at https://www.ntbuild.com.au/client-portal. NT Build's workers page and FAQ explain the steps. Each leave period must be at least 5 days.

Before you rely on this

  • The NT portion is paid at a flat weekly rate ($1,664.00 gross from 1 July 2026), not your own wage. The rate changes each 1 July.
